Creating a head in Maya

This lesson will teach you how to create a head in Maya using polygon planes. This style of modeling is great for animating a character. So click on the Creating faces page on the right side and enjoy a free lesson in the art of 3-D animation. Thank you for viewing.

I will take you on the steps of creating a head to be animated using Maya.

Step 1: Get reference photos

Step 2: Create mouth and nose using a polygon plane

Step 3: Form the eye and connect it to the nose and mouth

Step 4: Form the chin and eyebrow.

Step 5:  Pull down the chin to create the bottom jaw

Step 6: Create the ball of the head, using a polygon sphere with divisions of 10×10

Step 7: Connect to head to the face

Step 8: Duplicate the side and fix errors

Step 9: Extrude the neck down

Step 10: Duplicate one side to the other and apply a smooth. (do little adjustments as needed)

Finish editing and enjoy.
